Ahhh religion….

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

So the danish publish a newspaper with a cartoon that shows Muhammad as a terrorist… and what happens? People set fire to embassies.

article on the topic…

I guess I have issues with this on countless levels. First, the maturity level here is low, since the danish GOVERNMENT didn’t publish the cartoons, so burning the danish embassy is ill targeted. It would be like us targeting a foreign government after 9-11….

I guess, being from a place that thinks it has separation of church and state, and as much as I complain, we kind of do comparatively, although I leaders still openly push their beliefs, but whatever, I digress… It seems so odd that your government would so openly support one religion. I like to think that if a country took offense against catholicism or whatever we would not move for sanctions on them… who knows.

I still think religion causes harm.

Another point for smart people…

Bush bush bush…. 2

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

So I did some research… the Davis-Bacon act is good in theory, but according to a couple coworkers that have had to deal with it, it also creates a HUGE amount of administrative work, filings, interviews, double checking this and that, etc. She said they had 2 full time employees that did the Davis-Bacon paperwork full time, and they didn’t have a giant workforce or anything. So I can see how repealing the act for that time and location would allow progress to begin and progress faster. One would think that wages would still be decent, although this is no longer enforced, one would hope supply and demand would come into play and get people paid.

As for existing contracts for reconstruction, I can see where that may be a valuable thing. IE say the city government of SanFran has a rebuild contract with company Z to rebuild the roads if a giant earthquake hits. It is somewhat of a hedge, but a good one to have. That way if/when such a tragedy occurs, most of the paperwork is already done and work could progress quickly. A good plan.

My issue is that the companies that HAVE these exclusive, no bid contracts are all friends of the people in charge. Obviously, unlike the wars and THEIR existing contracts (you can see where this is going), the people who chose the contracts for reconstruction of New Orleans of SanFran have no control over natural disasters. (I don’t buy the Kyoto Treaty argument, although I do think the EPA/Federal Government needs to make stricter laws for emissions, be it from trucks or factories, but I digress). It just concerns me that friends are getting the hookups here to a degree that is unfair to others. An argument might be that only halliburton, shaw, etc have the ability/workforce to do such a job, I dunno. It just doesn’t sit right.

So if the government can ensure that the contracts are getting money into the workers pockets’ and not the friends’ pockets, I would be more at ease. But I don’t see that happening…

Bush bush bush…

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

so I am learning a bit about his recent actions related to wages, contracts in New Orleans, etc.

I really don’t like him, and I can’t understand how people do.

This article sums up my concerns to a degree.

other things to learn about:
article 1article 2 (I need to learn more about the Davis-Bacon Act)

political humor of the AM….

This is a funny pic..

and kayne west… got verbal. I am not sure I agree with him entirely, but there is some validity… harper and I were talking about it and he summed it up well… “bush doesn’t car about poor people, in this case they are black” (or something close to that, I am too lazy to pull the logs). It is valid.

and yet he uses the term “mr. cheney”

religion, tv, and the FCC…

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

the new hire over at the FCC was on the board of this group… which it seems has the goal of “…helping our members across the country bring Biblical principles into all levels of public policy.”. Gotta love it. Here is more on that one…

Why? Why do someone else’s values on things need to be pushed onto others? Why does one group get called ‘phobic’ and another ‘religious’ when they both harbor the same intolerance? And why does this have to be pushed onto something that is both voluntary and costs money, IE basic cable? If I pay for cable, and it is not broadcast on the free, then I am making a conscience decision to bring that programming into my life. Not to mention nearly all cable providers now have some form of channel lock, etc to keep children off certain channels. While I have never used such things due to a lack of need, but I am sure that once I am a parent, I will totally have a set of channels for my child to watch.

I don’t care if you or yours don’t like it, that isn’t your decision to make. So keep your ‘religious values’ out of my life.

religion!

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

This article makes me mad. Why can’t we just keep god and religion out of our public schools? What is so hard about it? Why do people need to impose their religious beliefs on to others all the time.

This is more frustrating to me now that I have a baby coming…
